There are no food stalls around Anil Bakery except two more shops and one beauty parlor which has happened to come into existence lately. The two other shops offer products ranging from basic need requirements, for example toiletries to food items whereas Anil Bakery is exclusively for food products.

Over a period of time a remarkable change can be observed in the variety of food products that the bakery now offers. The owner regularly interacts with the students in order to cater to their needs to the best of his capabilities. While getting an order for one food item, he would definitely ask if the customer wants anything else. He is also very observant in keeping a check of who is visiting his Bakery regularly and who is not. He has by now recognized a few faces. If they do not visit him regularly he would ask them about their health, schedule etc. in order to maintain a healthy customer- buyer relationship. Also, one very interesting thing is that he always keeps a jug at his Bakery to provide water to the construction workers working around Basapura. It can thus, be seen that these workers never visit the other two shops nearby. They always buy tea or food from Anil Bakery only.

So many of our food stalls seem to become places of social interaction bringing people together. Here’s a link to how markets have been the center of community life: http://www.pps.org/markets/
